Ecology fieldwork – keeping practical science alive

A whirlwind video tour of simple ecology fieldwork techniques that could be carried out in school grounds, gardens or green field sites using readily available, recycled or home-made equipment. Learning outdoors is engaging and motivating for students and the risk of viral transmission is lower. The session will include the equipment and techniques needed for the ecology required practical at KS3 but many of the approaches are applicable for use from KS2-4.

You will make your own fieldwork equipment live during the session (bring your own kit, see the list provided below). This will take around 5 minutes of the session and you can attend the session without taking part in this element.

Equipment to have with you for the session:
We will be making our own fieldwork equipment. Please don’t go out on a special shopping trip to get any of these items, use items from around the prep room, home, garden, garage or recycling.
